As a Pathfinder, you need to
enter into a culture of reading. (Magazines and Facebook posts don’t count by
the way)
Your mind is still in process of
development and a book will open your mind into a new perspective of learning.
The culture of reading is a constant process of growth and it is not going to
be easy to enter into it at first. To master it, you need to continue reading
even when you don’t ‘Feel like it’.
The Book Club Certificate is a
certificate issued by the Seventh Day Adventist Conference to candidates who
have completed its requirements. To meet the criteria, a Pathfinder needs to
read a book approved by SDA leadership. The different levels in the Pathfinder
program specify at which level a Pathfinder must read in order to qualify for
this certificate. The book which a Guide Pathfinder reads can’t be the same as
the book read by a Friend Pathfinder.
The Book Club Certificate is not
a popular part of the Pathfinder curriculum. In fact, some clubs disregard it
altogether. It, however, should not be the case. This discipline needs to be
groomed into Pathfinders especially by the parents of Pathfinders and should
not be merely left for the Director to do.
