Well, face it, times have
changed!... Move with the times…
Never compromise on principle.
For example, punctuality is a principle but you no longer can discipline any
child physically.
There are various methods of
teaching and the best advice I have with all these methods is ‘Be fully
prepared’. Pathfinders can smell an unprepared Director a mile away and they
will take the matter to their advantage.
Pathfinders always have something
to contribute but they will keep their opinions and ideas to themselves unless
you create the platform for them to contribute and if you don’t create this
platform, you may lose them.
Pathfinders want to be
acknowledged and if you reserve all compliments and only share criticism, you
will lose them…
You need to challenge
Pathfinders! Challenge their minds and seek to hear their points of view before
sharing yours. Even the most silent Pathfinder has an opinion and if not, they
definitely have questions. Encourage such involvement and be receptive of
challenges from them. If a question is asked, answer it to fullest
satisfaction. No question is stupid and all questions are very important. Think
of it this way; Pathfinder questions are a result of a pending internal
thought… so challenge their minds in a structured manner and in manner that
would be remembered when in moments of crucial decision making. Let them do the
research and don’t always spoon-feed.
